Olivia Derby - I think Dust was a fabulous book because it was very heartfelt, made a lot of sense and spread awareness around the world. It really made me think twice about the people in Africa and Indonesia and places where people don’t really have food and shelter. It is great to see an author who really cares about the things like that. It was a really great book to be written. Although it was sad, it really made me feel like I should do more things to help people less fortunate than me.
Robert Herzfeld - I am grateful that I live in a country that is a stable place to live. Glad that the book was written for the fundraising for the people in Africa or other countries that are poor.
Hannah Manassah - Dust is a sad book because it has a lot of pictures of poor people that don’t have any food and eventually just rot away. I’m happy this book was written because it reminds me about how lucky I am to have all these privileges. It also helps to raise money for the fundraising.
Ben Parry - I have just listened to somebody read the book dust and I thought it was very sad. It talks about poverty and the poorer people, we are very lucky for what we have, we have computers, MP3’s and some other luxuries when some people don’t even eat in a day. When we throw food scraps in the bin that would be an entire meal for a day. I am glad this book has been written it has opened up my mind. Sometimes we think I’m not giving that charity serves $2 when really $2 is not much at all. Donate or sponsor a child to help save lives literally.
Thoughts on Dust - By Caitlin Campbell - I think Dust is a really good book, even if it is a bit depressing. It gives a really good view on the poverty in places like Africa. The author describes the pains of living like that through simple sentences. It’s done simply, but cleverly. The pictures are stunning and as they say, a picture’s worth a thousand words, but these pictures are worth much, much more than that. Dust is a really, really good book.
Michael Hagdorn - I thought that the book was good because it lets people know how lucky they are and it will encourage people to donate money.
But all up I thought it was sad and depressing but it should be in every coffee shop and in every house everywhere and I hope millions of people buy it so lots of money will be given to the starving homeless kids and adults
Marcus Safstrom - After reading the book Dust I had a mixture of feelings.
One was sadness for them and anger that not many people where doing anything about it.
Us people eating big meals morning lunch and dinner, are very lucky compared to the people in Africa that only get 1 meal a day or maybe nothing. I think it would be good if everyone could donate some money to these people that are living in poverty. I think that it is very very good that this book was written so that more people can experience what those people are going through. Many of us people living in Australia have numerous luxuries like Computers, Television x-box, play stations and various other things, for instance the laptop I am using now to type this. Anyone that can read the book Dust and not think anything about it is just not right.
Rachael Mason - Dust is a very touching story. I never realized that there were so many people that are living in poverty. I never realized how lucky we all are to live in such a good continent.
The book ‘Dust’ is a very touching so story. The book is very sad, but unfortunately true, very true. I’m glad that this book was written, since it has raised many dollars for the unfortunate people living in poverty.
The book is very depressing, especially the pictures.
Colin Thompson, I think you are real hero to write this book and raise money.
Andrew Arnold - I thought that dust was a sad and unhappy book it moved me. When I saw those dead and unhappy faces it made see how lucky I am to live in such a good country were there is always food and water.
I would love to donate money to those people that are poor but sadly I don’t have any money to donate but if I did I would and I can say that the book really made me cry because that was really sad seeing all those sad and unhappy faces if only the hole world had no poor people and there was no criminals and that the hole world could live in harmony.
Marcia French - In the book dust it’s sad to think that there are many people who do not have normal life’s because maybe because they don’t have much money or because they live in a place where people can’t get to you if your sick.
The book has taught me many things about how some people have no food or water and get sick very quickly. The book dust makes you think about other people and makes you feel quit sad.
The book dust really did touch me and hopefully other people to.
Jessie Arthur - After listening to my classmate’s stories and Colin Thompson’s Books, I have realized that I am so lucky to be healthy, happy and have such caring people around me. It made me feel like I should really take time to think about the people who are less fortunate around the world. When I think about the person I know had cancer, I am really grateful that they are still here.
I think it was a good idea to have that book read to me because it really opened my eyes a lot more than before.
Tobias Wolinski - I feel sorry for the people in a third world country that can’t afford food or clean water or medical attention that so many people in Africa need.
The book dust has opened my eyes to what really happens in Africa.
I think that it was a good idea for the book to be written although it was sad it shows what happens in a simple but touching way.
Laura Fiegert - The book Dust was very sad and depressing. It made me realise how lucky I am. A lot of people in the world have luxuries like TVs and other things while others don’t even have anything to eat.
I think it was a good thing that the book Dust was made to show people how lucky they are. This book made me want to help the people who aren’t as lucky as me.
I felt very sad that some people have no food or water so they die. Reading this book made me to cry.
Savanna - Dust is a good book to explain things about poverty in countries that are paw and suffer lots. Dust has made me think about other people who don’t even have enough money to by food for 1 meal a day. Most the time people don’t even get a meal for 2 or 3 days. Dust has made me understand much more about poverty and families losing loved ones or even losing their whole family. I realised that lots of people die all over the world every day, while I can jut have what ever I want. Dust will also teach other people and will make more people sponsor kids who need food and clothes and water to help them stay alive.
Kenya Wilson - Its so true. I always new that people in Africa and other poor countries were unwell and dying but I never new it was that bad.
The pictures in the book are amazing and when you look up close to them you can see the work that has been put into them.
It points out that many care but many people don’t.
I think it was a good thing that this book was published for the people that don’t really care to see the pain that family’s in poor countries like Africa go thru. Seeing people die like that is very heart braking and I hope the more wealthy people can help put a stop to it.
I think it is amazing and fantastic that this book has raised a lot of money.
Connor McFarlane Rowson - Dust is a book that made me feel like I was in my own little dream and I was rich. It made me feel sad, have lots of luxuries, and spoiled. It also made me feel like I wanted to support 1 maybe 2 poorer family’s that need money, water and food. The book Dust had a big impact on me, the book also made a big impact on what I want to do about it.
Jarrad Miller - It makes me feel very sad and lucky to have food and drink placed in front of me every night. We have all of those fancy restaurants and fast food places and lots of water and soft drink but in Africa lots of people are starving and dieing of thirst and struggling for survival every day. I am very lucky. My thoughts on the book dust make me feel very sad and tearful. My family sponsored a almost dead boy named John, he lived in one of the driest continents in Africa. He is now very healthy and happy and John can go to school with other kids now. The book Dust should be either sold in every book shop around the world or be on the coffee table In lots of houses.
Ethan Walters - I thought that ‘Dust’ was really depressing, but it really made me think abut what we have taken and left the African people with (or without). You really get a few hard hits to your conscience when reading it. But the thing that hits hardest is the realisation that we don’t seem to care.
Fenella Peterkin - After listening to this story I have realised that I am a very lucky person to be healthy and to have all the fantastic opportunities to do all things that I wish to do. Most people don’t think about how lucky they really
Things such as T.V., computers, electrical devices and the luxuries that we have today are not essential. Many people don’t have the same opportunities that a lot of us have, many don’t even have enough food to feed their families and children.
This book describes poverty and lets people know that there are less fortunate people in the world.
I think it is an excellent book although sometimes a bit depressing. This book has really made me think about how lucky I am.
Shaid Booth - This book is so sad and depressing but the worse thing is it’s true.
Some people are much less fortunate than we are and I think this book makes people stop and think about how lucky we really are.
I’m glad this book was written because most people don’t stop and think about the poor and just take everything for granted. I think this book has moved and will continue to move people and cause them to think. This book has deeply moved me and caused me to think about this. I am happy and healthy when some people don’t even have a bed to sleep in or food to eat. Sometimes we say we are hungry but what we eat for morning tea is what is keeping them alive!
I really hope that a lot more people think about this more and more and donate money to charities that help poor people.
Callan Cranenburgh - After reading the story “DUST” I felt sad because it made me think about how many people die of natural disasters and starvation in the world. People who live in modern cities are always whinging about things and they always want money and new things. The story was really great and I think that it has a lot of great words and sayings. It was also good because every page was drawn by a different illustrator, which was great because you could see all their different styles of drawing.
Siobhan Gilbert - Although the story was a little exaggerated, it is the cold hard truth. The story and illustrations of the book Dust is a real eye opener; it is true that we no longer live in a perfect world. Dying from starvation, or being parched to death is no longer uncommon, at any given time someone will die from these conditions; it has become a daily thing. Thankyou for the help you are giving to these people in need.
William Baxter - When we read Dust I felt sad because I never would have thought that it is realistic. I dont think I would be able to live without all the things that I have like clothes. Well done for helping all the people that that need food and water. This story should be told world wide.
Dear Colin Thompson
I really liked your book Dust.
I felt that it explains that we should value what we have and also think about what some people don’t have in life.
I think it is a really sad story but the illustrations really describe the story and where it is set.
I really like how you are donating the funds the Save The Children Fund and I think every one should have a copy.
Thank you for reading this from Katie J J
Dear Mr Thompson,
DUST
Thankyou so much for enlightening us all to the disasters of the world even though it is sadly realistic. The strong sentences and good adjectives were helpful in illustrating, in our minds, what it was like, but of course we did not have to work so hard thanks to the many artists who illustrated this book.
I liked the way you have exaggerated that the child had no time to enjoy life because of her youth. You have done a wonderful job and I hope that the books sell well and that many people donate to the Save the Children’s’ Fund.
HOW TO LIVE FOREVER
This book I enjoyed very much. The story was great and the pictures were amazing with every little detail possible.
It was a good message and it was thoroughly exciting seeing and reading Peter’s adventure. My favourite picture would have to be the blue and white china. I hope that in the future you shall produce many more and I certainly look forward to it.
Yours sincerely,
Eleanor Yacopetti
Elli Brooks - I thought it was a lovely book. It was really good because it was based on saving children. I loved every page of the book, I could read it every day. It was really sad. It made everyone think of how lucky they are to have food, a place to live and supplies.
I loved the pictures on every page, I want to get the book. I couldn’t wait till you came, it was one of the best books I read. Thank you so much for letting us read the books, it was great. It would be great if everyone could read this amazing book they will know how lucky they are.
Sasha Newland - I thought Dust was a very sad story because a lot of the people die in it and this is what happens around the world everyday. It was a very upsetting and depressing story. I will say but I thing I really liked about it was the illustrations. They were truly amazing and helped me understand the story. This book reminds you to be happy with what you have got because some people have nothing at all. This story was very true and has got true facts in it. This story really made me think how lucky I am to have the things I have got.
Dear Colin Thompson
After reading Dusk and The Short and Incredibly happy life of Riley
I felt sad and thought about all the stuff I wanted and all the stuff I and other people need. Your book really made me think I am a bit selfish and so is every one.
The truth is that we all are something we don’t want to be… selfish
I started to think about the people starving, dieing, and all could be stopped if every one
does their part but we do we donate to charities. Some times it’s the government’s fault in Burma, the government is more military not poverty.
Yours sincerely
Hamish Watson.
Broden Garrett - The book Dust makes me want to help more people and also eat all of my food and don’t chuck any of it out so I am not wasting my food. Also it gave me a new look at life for others and I’m going to start helping more people by putting spare money in to cancer and other fundraisers I will put food into the food charities and raise money to give to cancer people.
Sheynae Griffiths - It’s sad to think that there are so many people out there that have nothing or are really poor and dieing of thirst and starvation. This book was great because it makes you think about how poor people live and it makes you want to do something about it and donate something to the poor people or a charity that supports poor people. Dust makes you think about things that have happened to you and how much worse these people have to go through. It makes you think about what you waste and what better you could do with it. Dust taught me about how many people suffer from having no food or water and how he or she don’t get to live for very long and don’t get to experience the life we get to. Some things that we have like computers and televisions these people would have never heard of. I’m glad this book has been written because it will inspire lots of people. It definitely inspired me.
Shameus Kjellgren - I think Dust was a sad, confronting and upsetting book.
I’m glad Colin Thompson wrote the book because; people need to know that not every one has the golden life. Some people don’t even deserve it. Colin Thompson went to great lengths to get Dust written even illustrating some of it. I hope people will think about people less fortunate then themselves after reading Dust. I would like to compliment Colin Thompson for writing the book even after people said it wouldn’t work.
It is one great book and I hope the whole world reads it one day
Georgia Whisson - Dust is a sad book and I was deeply moved by it. It hits home when you think that other people ignore what is happening in the world. The people lost and there hope that they are in a better place. Some people take a plate of food for granted. People don’t often think that plate of food might save someone’s life. A long shower might dry up someone’s hope for life because his or her water supply has dried up. This book helps people understand what is out there and what we don’t see but others may hide the fact that they are feeling guilty.
So we should try and help. If one life can be saved because of me I will feel better than yesterday.
Peter Martin - My thoughts on dust are, why did he make a really depressing book and all the stuff in the book is happening right they’re in front us. My other thoughts I had on the conversation were why would all this happen in front of us and why we didn’t do anything about it. I don’t reckon the book should have been written because it was so depressing.
Tom Noonan - After reading DUST I felt sad because so many people die this way from natural disasters and people should do a little more to help people that are like this because it’s really sad and thousands and thousands of people die.
What I liked about this book is the different styles of drawing. You got to see different types of drawings and paintings.
Amber Pitcher - After reading Dust I know what is happening in the world right now and I feel sorry for all of the people who have to suffer like this.
This story is not old news. It still happens to people all around the world.
I wish these people could have a roof over their heads and a floor under their feet. They won’t have to go and look for food and water, they can just have food and water supplied for them.
These people have to be treated better, I want them to have homes and not be homeless. Look at us, we have everything and they have nothing. Some of the children don’t even have parents and they have to look after themselves.
These kids and adults are dying because of the world they are living in.
Daniel Vassilou - What I thought about dust was that it really makes you think about what life would be like in those countries. It also makes you feel sorry and as I said before how it would be in those countries it is really weird.
